　　　　1988年派拉蒙推出的《美国之旅》是艾迪·墨菲在当红时代主演的浪漫喜剧，由约翰·兰迪斯执导，詹姆斯·厄尔·琼斯、阿瑟尼奥·豪尔、嘉丝莉·毕薇斯也出演。艾迪·墨菲在片中饰演富有的虚构非洲国家扎门达的王子阿基姆Akeem，为了摆脱王室安排选择自己的妻子，他去到了美国留学，打工期间爱上了美国中产女孩萨莉。于是千方百计隐瞒自己的身份发动追求，不料消息走漏，国王带了大批随从赶到纽约，引发了连篇趣事。　　时隔32年后回归，这次非洲王子Akeem登基当了国王，但是据说当年他在美国留下了私生子，于是新的美国之旅开始了……《美国之旅2》讲述的故事是，艾迪·墨菲扮演的非洲王子如今加冕成了国王，詹姆斯·厄尔·琼斯饰演的老国王告诉他：1988年的美国之旅他在美国留下了私生子，需要跑过去找到他，于是非洲国家王室成员二人组再度前往美国，新的美国之旅开始了。                                    
    续集由克雷格·布鲁尔(《我叫多麦特》)执导，肯尼亚·巴里斯(《喜新不厌旧》《嗨翻姐妹行》)等执笔剧本，阿瑟尼奥·豪尔、詹姆斯·厄尔·琼斯等也回归出演，韦斯利·斯奈普斯、琪琪·莱恩、莱斯利·琼斯、崔西·摩根、杰梅因·福勒等新加盟。                                    
    据悉，派拉蒙将《美国之旅2》卖给了亚马逊，版权费据说高达1.25亿美元。这部续集电影原定于今年12月18日登陆北美院线，如今定档2021年3月5日上线亚马逊。
