◎简　　介
　　　　时值隆冬，梶被派到北满洲守备队。连日强行训练已经筋疲力尽，还得忍受老兵的作弄。但是无论从体力还是射击技巧上都是数一数二的，立刻成了队里的重要士兵，他还站在袒护小士兵的立场上。梶保护的朋友们又因哥哥是左翼思想犯，自己也被当作赤色分子的新城一等兵。又因妻子来信骂他 是家庭的愚痴而动摇被老兵痛斥的小原二等兵。还有40岁被征来的老兵。梶帮助新城逃往苏联，小原在厕所中自杀。梶的妻子不远万里来部队见梶。两人得到特别许可在工具仓库过了一夜。后来因苏联参战，梶的部队被苏联坦克部队全部歼灭。只有梶等少数几个人活下来。
