    故事背景是韩战之后的美国，劳伦斯·夏威返国时被当作战争英雄，荣获国会勋章，但他同一排的弟兄和他的排长法兰克·辛纳屈都不清楚他在战场上干了什么英勇行为？辛纳屈时常梦到韩战的奇怪景象，决定调查真相，终于发现他们那一排的人原来曾被北韩军队俘虏并加以洗脑，夏威已变成苏联派到美国作政治暗杀的洗脑杀手。                                    
    剧情发展溶合了写实幻想与象征，彼此交错进行，因此映象的处理亦十分复杂，有如一列不断在变速的火车，对于能够进入情况的观众是会看得很过瘾的。
