◎简　　介
　　　　贝克斯菲尔德（伯特·兰卡斯特 Burt Lancaster 饰）是林肯机场的总经理，繁忙的工作让他总是将家庭摆在人生的次要位置，导致备受冷落的妻子辛迪（达娜·温特 Dana Wynter 饰）最终选择了离开。                                    
    就在贝克斯菲尔德的婚姻遭遇了破坏性的打击的同时，他的事业也发生了前所未有的危机，一架飞机抛锚在了跑道上，阻碍了其他飞机起飞，更糟的是，另一架飞机上，一名恐怖分子引爆了炸弹，导致飞机严重受损，必须使用跑到着陆，否则就会机毁人亡。在飞机专家帕特洛尼（乔治·肯尼迪 George Kennedy 饰）的帮助下，贝克斯菲尔德凭借着惊人的胆识和智慧最终顺利化解危机，不仅如此，他还和女助手开启了一段罗曼史。
